Bo Diddley : His Best (The Chess 50th Anniversary Collection)

 Ellas Bates McDaniel

 (December 30, 1928 – June 2, 2008), 

known professionally as

 Bo Diddley

was an American

 guitarist and singer

who played a key role

 in the transition from

 the blues to 

rock and roll

He influenced many artists,

 including 

Buddy Holly, 

The Beatles,

 The Rolling Stones,

 the Animals, 

George Thorogood,

 Syd Barrett, 

Tom Petty

and

 The Clash.

His use of African rhythms

 and a signature beat, 

a simple five-accent 

hambone rhythm,

 is a cornerstone of

 hip hop, rock, 

and pop music.

In recognition of

 his achievements, 

he was inducted into

 the Rock and Roll 

Hall of Fame

 in 1987,

 the Blues 

Hall of Fame

 in 2003,

 and the 

Rhythm and Blues 

Music Hall of Fame

 in 2017. 

He received a 

Lifetime Achievement Award

 from the Rhythm

 and Blues Foundation 

and the Grammy 

Lifetime Achievement Award. 

Diddley is also recognized

 for his technical innovations, 

including his use of

 tremolo and reverb 

effects to enhance 

the sound 

of his distinctive

 rectangular guitars.

 Samuel Cooke 

January 22, 1931 – December 11, 1964)

 was an American

 soul singer 

and songwriter.

 Considered one 

of the most influential

 Soul artists of all time, 

Cooke is commonly

 referred to as the 

"King of Soul

for his distinctive vocals, 

pioneering contributions

 to the genre, 

and significance in 

popular music.

 During his

 eight-year career, 

Cooke released

 29 singles

 that charted in

 the Top 40 

of the 

Billboard 

Hot 100 chart, 

as well as 

20 singles

 in the Top 10

 of Billboard's

 Black Singles chart. 

In 1964, 

he was shot 

and killed 

by the manager

 of a motel 

in Los Angeles. 

After an inquest

 and investigation, 

the courts ruled 

Cooke's death to be a 

justifiable homicide.

 His family has since 

questioned the circumstances 

of his death. 

In 2015, 

Cooke was ranked number 28 

in Billboard magazine's

 list of the

 "35 Greatest 

R&B Artists of All Time".

 June 17, 2003,

The disc covers 

Cooke's entire career,

"Shake". 

The collection includes

 most of the singer's
